Bríd completed a bachelor degree in biomedical science at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, Northern Ireland in 2000, followed by a PhD in cellular and molecular physiology and pharmacology at the University of Nevada, Reno.  Her research focused on the ionic mechanisms underlying the control of smooth muscle contraction and the approaches used to investigate this area included patch clamp studies of portal vein and coronary artery myocytes, contractile studies, western blotting and immunohistochemistry.

In 2006, Bríd took up a postdoctoral position with Professor David Adams at the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland and at the Health Innovations Research Institute at RMIT University.  Her postdoctoral research focused on the identification and characterisation of novel conotoxins and analogues selective for voltage gated calcium and sodium channels expressed in dissociated sensory neurons as potential drug leads for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

Brid joined the Brock/Furness lab in early 2011.  Her work involves investigating the pharmacological profiles of a range of compounds that target ghrelin receptors and the role of ghrelin receptors in cardiovascular control.
