Dr O'Callaghan is a physician with expertise in autonomic neuropathies who is working with us on the treatment of cardiovascular consequences of spinal cord injuries and its treatment. Chris was the first to apply continuous cardiovascular monitoring to SCI patients and it was he who first recognised and provided quantitative measurement of the paradoxical nocturnal hypertension and nocturnal polyurea of SCI patients. He has tested the effectiveness of vasodilator drugs in these patients. He has thus provided the first evidence that an effective therapy can be developed.
