Jennings Lab ~ Techniques
We use several techniques to examine ion channels involved in modulating neurotransmission in at the first synapse in the trigeminal nociceptive pathway.
1. whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology in brain slices to examine synaptic transmission and quantal release
2. whole cell patch clamp from acutely isolated trigeminal ganglion neurons

Current induced in response to different voltage steps in a sensory neuron.

3. immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis to examine receptor protein localisation and changes in injury states.
Micrograph of immunohistochemistry of P2X2 and P2X3 receptors and co-localisation in the trigeminal ganglion. Size frequency histogram of trigeminal ganglion neurons stained in this way.
