I am an Associate Professor and leader of a research team in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology working on axon guidance in the Drosophila embryo. I graduated from Flinders University in South Australia where I first developed my interest in developmental biology.
My particular interest in neural development and in using insects as models for research in this field arose during my PhD at the Research School of Biological Sciences, Australian National University.
About 12 years ago, I was lured to the fruit-fly and my current work on axon guidance focuses on this organism. In addition, I have a long-standing interest in evolutionary developmental biology ("evo-devo") - particularly, in evolutionary changes in the development of the nervous system in the arthropods.
One day, I will retire to the Australian Alps Walking track.
