Research Projects - 516-307What is 516-307 Research Project?Research project is a subject offered to undergraduate students as part of their BSc or BBiomedSci degree. It is worth 12.5 points and can be undertaken in either 1 st or 2 nd semester, or over the summer semester. It consists of a minimum of 60 contact hours based in one of the many research laboratories in Anatomy and Cell Biology. You will, under supervision, carry out a project designed with the help of your supervisor, analyse the results and write up a report. There are no lecture or practical class components. The assessment is based solely on the report you write and on a short oral presentation. This is an excellent way to see if you like the type of research you would be doing in a BSc(Hons) year. Supervisors for Research Project are available in Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Pharmacology and Physiology. Entry requirementsThere are no formal entry requirements other than you find a supervisor willing to take you in the semester of your choosing. However, most supervisors will be looking for students of good academic standard and normally, students doing this subject would have a minimum H3 (65%) average in the year leading up to this subject. Enrolling in 516-307You cannot enroll in this subject without the permission of the co-ordinator. You must first locate a supervisor in the Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Pharmacology or Physiology willing to take you. Once you have the agreement of a supervisor, contact the coordinator, Gary Hime (make this an email link) and he will provide a letter for you to take to the Faculty of Science so that you can enroll. 516-307 projects and supervisorsIdeas for projects will be listed under each Research Lab on the department Web page. Any project listed as suitable for Honours students or AMS students will also be capable of being adapted for a Research Project student. In general your supervisor will suggest a project after you have contacted them. Contact the 516-307 co-ordinator516-307 Research Project Co-ordinator in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology:
